We're excited to announce today, that Avalon Restaurant will be relocating from its longtime home inside the historic Savoy Theatre dress circle to the landmark heritage 'Rubyston' building at 132 Lurline Street, Katoomba, formerly home to Pins on Lurline. This move marks an exciting new chapter in our restaurant's history and ensures our long-term future in the Blue Mountains community.

A New Chapter in a Historic Setting
For 36 years, Avalon has delighted locals and visitors alike with our globally-inspired menu, crafted cocktails and quirky, retro style. While the nostalgic charm of our present home of 26 years at the Savoy will be missed, the new location at the historic Rubyston property offers the perfect setting for our next chapter.
Built in 1898, the stunning Queen Anne-style Federation estate sits on a prominent half-acre corner property on Lurline Street, featuring a grand building with indoor and outdoor dining spaces, spacious gardens—perfect for a fabulous garden party—and on-site parking for a more accessible dining experience.
Preserving the Avalon Spirit
You can rest assured that Avalon's heart and soul will remain intact. We'll continue to serve our signature menu, alongside new seasonal specials, crafted cocktails, and live music from local entertainers. Our eclectic mix of vintage curiosities and retro charm will be reimagined and woven into the grand architecture of Rubyston—along with just a few quirky new finds—backed by the same warm hospitality you've come to know and love.
The relocation will also see the introduction of a dedicated Weekend Brunch and Lunch menu, alongside extended trading hours so you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Rubyston during both the day and evening.

Our last service at the Savoy will be Saturday 22nd of August, and all going to plan, we'll be open in our new home the following week on Friday 28th August!
We'll be raising a glass to farewell the Savoy, where we've hosted more than 500 unforgettable nights of live music and good times. The BlackHeathens will help us mark the end of a era.
This isn't the end of the Friday Supper Club though... the music continues when the Supper Club moves to Bowery Kitchen and Bar, from August 28.

A Local Institution in the Heart of Katoomba
Avalon first opened its doors in 1990, hidden away from view in the loft of an old warehouse on Bathurst Rd, and from day one, Avalon embraced a unique charm and old-world character. This spirit continues in the dress circle of the Katoomba's historic Savoy Theatre.
Over the years the décor, the menus and the faces have evolved... but at the same time, barely changed. Avalon has always been more than just a restaurant — it’s been a dependable gathering place, where everyone feels welcome.

Our philosophy has always been simple: serve delicious, generous, comfort food, combined with friendly, casual service and a touch of nostalgia. From our famous Licorice Cheesecake, to our most popular Slow-Roasted Lamb, to local wines, beers and cheeky tipples in our cozy cocktail bar, every dish and drink evokes a memory.
Behind every plate is an awesome team that loves what they do — many of whom have been part of the Avalon family for years. Their friendly faces, humour, and dedication are the backbone of our business.
Over 35 years, we've hosted countless birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, music and comedy events, each with special memories made. We’ve seen generations of families dine with us — children who once came with their parents now bringing their own kids.
