Standing Still is a collection of cello, piano, and accordion music ranging from Marin Marais to Arvo Pärt, that moves through lush, and haunting landscapes to arrive at a place of stillness.
The show opens with Bartok’s Romanian Folk Song – Standing Still, arranged for cello, accordion and piano. This piece was chosen to set the tone for the concert because it is still and reflective and provides the space in which to explore sound.
The collaboration between Deborah and Anne began shortly before the pandemic began, and the programme mirrors the kind of reflection provided by more time spent at home. The variations on La Folia wind their way through a lush cello programme, sometimes played on cello, sometimes on accordion. We finish with one of the greatest interpretations of stillness – Arvo Part’s Spiegel im Spiegel. Sit back, breathe deeply and enjoy this meditative journey.
